Happy New Year, my wonderful readers! If you don’t follow me on Instagram (please do @melaniegibsonauthor), you haven’t seen my taekwondo goals for 2020. I wrote these in my office one day in late December and have them posted above my desk.

These aspirations should keep me motivated when I’m getting too mired in conference calls or presentations (and inspire me to get off my ass and move around).

If you can’t read my handwriting, here’s what it says:

-Learn 540 kick…my body finally got the hang of 360, so we’ll see what happens
-Be a badass in sparring (head shots/back kicks)…actually landing them on my sparring partner, not just doing them 🙂

Breaks:
-Roundhouse/360/spin kick—one right after the other
-Jump back kick
-Double flying snap kick
-Simultaneous punch and side kick

No Pae (form) with a board break punch…that’s a thing in this old, rarely practiced form

15 hand-to-hand and weapons self-defense techniques…as of today one of my training partners and I came up with eleven!

And of course…THIRD DAN!

What are your martial arts goals for 2020? Let’s make this a kickass year!

  1. I know what these things are and they are no simple task. Good for you! My goal is simply start attending class again regularly. What I learn, they teach me. What I model, they learn. Happy New Year!

    1. Thank you—and you have a great goal! I really like what you said: “What I learn, they teach me. What I model, they learn.” So true for black belts. Happy new year to you too!
